Trump distances US from Iran gas field strike
U.S. President Donald Trump has denied any involvement by the United States in the recent Israeli strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
According to Reuters, Trump insisted the attack was carried out solely by Israel, stating that neither the U.S. nor Qatar had prior knowledge of the operation. He warned Iran against targeting Qatar, noting that Washington would respond strongly if such a move occurs.
Daily Star Nigeria gathered that Trump also said Israel would not launch further attacks on the gas facility unless Iran escalates the situation by striking Qatar, in what appears to be an effort to prevent further conflict.
However, the Reuters report suggested that Trump may have been aware of the strike beforehand, raising questions about the true extent of U.S. involvement despite his public stance.
The attack on the South Pars gas field—one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves—marks a major escalation in the ongoing tensions involving Iran and Israel. Iran has since retaliated with strikes on energy infrastructure in the Gulf region, including targets in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
The development has heightened global concerns, with fears that continued escalation could disrupt energy supplies and further destabilize the region.
