According to Daily Star Nigeria, suspected armed gunmen yesterday evening, Wednesday, 25 February, stormed a mosque in Dadinkowa village, Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing at least five worshippers and injuring 19 others, some with life-threatening wounds.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants, believed to be members of the Lakurawa armed group, invaded the mosque shortly after breaking the Ramadan fast while congregants were gathered for tafsir. One resident described how the floor of the mosque was left soaked in blood after the attackers fled the scene.

The injured victims were reportedly rushed to nearby health facilities for urgent medical care, with local sources saying several of them are in critical condition.

Following the brutal assault, many residents of Dadinkowa have deserted the village, while neighbouring communities remain on edge, fearing further attacks.

The security situation in parts of north-west Nigeria continues to deteriorate, with ordinary citizens expressing growing frustration at persistent violence and what they describe as the failure of authorities to protect lives and property.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has repeatedly urged security agencies to end attacks like this so that Nigerians can sleep with peace of mind, but community members say the situation remains unchanged on the ground.

As of now, security officials in Kebbi State are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
