Outrage as Israeli Settlers, Children March Toward Gaza Border, Demand Occupation
By Mustapha Muhammad Tukur Illo
Hundreds of Israeli settlers, including women, children and babies, have marched toward the border of Palestine’s Gaza Strip, openly calling for the permanent occupation of the besieged territory.
The march, which took place on February 5, was reportedly organised by the extremist Nahala movement and led by controversial settler leader Daniella Weiss, who insists that Gaza “belongs” to Israel.
Information shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user Danielle Weiss indicated that about 1,500 settlers gathered near the Gaza border, waving Israeli flags as they moved toward the Palestinian enclave.
The development has drawn strong reactions among Nigerians on social media, many of whom compared the situation in Gaza to prolonged conflicts in parts of Northern Nigeria, where civilians including women and children, often bear the brunt of violence and displacement.
Analysts say the involvement of children and infants in the march has further raised ethical and humanitarian concerns, especially as Gaza remains under intense bombardment and blockade.
Human rights groups have repeatedly warned that any attempt to occupy Gaza would amount to a violation of international law and could worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis facing millions of Palestinians.
Daily Star Nigeria reports that the incident has renewed global outrage and reinforced calls by civil society organisations, religious leaders and peace advocates including those in Nigeria for an immediate end to the violence and protection of civilians.
