Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has warned residents that the slaughter of pregnant animals is now strictly prohibited.

Daily Star Nigeria gathered that the announcement was made by Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, Commissioner of the Ministry of Livestock Development, who shared the update on his official Facebook page. He explained that while the law has existed for some time, it is now being fully enforced.

Under the laws of the Kano State Ministry of Livestock Development and Animal Resources, the slaughter of pregnant animals is prohibited. There are penalties for anyone found guilty. From now on, this law is fully in effect,” Dr. Aliyu wrote.

The ministry said the move is aimed at protecting animal welfare, safeguarding economic resources, and promoting sustainable livestock development in the state. Butchers, traders, and livestock owners have been urged to comply to avoid legal penalties.

This latest enforcement highlights the government’s commitment to responsible livestock management and animal protection across Kano State.
