The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs has announced that the new moon of Shawwal 1447AH was not sighted across Nigeria, meaning Ramadan will complete 30 days this year.

In a press statement issued alongside the National Moon Sighting Committee, the council confirmed that no credible reports of the crescent were received on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, which was the 29th day of Ramadan.

Daily Star Nigeria gathered that Thursday, March 19, 2026, will be observed as the 30th day of Ramadan.

Following this, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH, marking the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

The Sultan congratulated Muslims across the country and urged them to continue praying for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria. He also prayed that Allah accepts the عبادات (acts of worship) performed during the holy month.

He further wished the Muslim faithful a joyful and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
