AGILE Sokoto Unblocks Delayed Cash Transfers, Brings Relief to Beneficiary Families
Relief has finally come to thousands of households across Sokoto State as the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has resolved the long-standing delays affecting its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) payments.
Daily Star Nigeria gathered that the World Bank supported programme, designed to encourage adolescent girls to remain in secondary school, has cleared all outstanding issues that stalled ATM disbursements to enroll families.
For several months, parents and guardians had expressed growing concern over the delay, as the cash support plays a critical role in meeting school-related expenses such as fees, uniforms and learning materials. Beyond financial assistance, the scheme also serves as a motivation for regular school attendance and helps prevent girls from dropping out.
“I’ve been checking my daughter’s ATM card almost every day,” a parent in Sokoto metropolis told Daily Star Nigeria. “We were afraid she might not return to school because of fees. This update has lifted a huge burden off our shoulders.”
Officials of AGILE in Sokoto confirmed that all payment hitches have now been duly addressed and that disbursement of funds has commenced. Beneficiary families are expected to receive alerts in their accounts within the coming days.
The programme further advised parents and guardians to keep monitoring their wards’ ATM cards. Any beneficiary who does not receive payment between February 3 and February 9, 2026, has been directed to promptly report the matter to their school principal for immediate intervention.
With payments finally underway, many families say the development marks a major turning point. As financial support begins to flow again, parents can refocus on what matters most; ensuring their daughters remain in school and continue their journey toward education and empowerment.
