EFCC Arrests 20 Over Alleged Electoral Fraud in FCT Council Polls
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 20 suspects over alleged electoral offences during the just-concluded local government elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to information shared by the commission on its official Facebook page, the arrests were carried out on Saturday, February 21, 2026, by EFCC operatives deployed across the territory to monitor the conduct of the polls.
The anti-graft agency said the suspects were apprehended for various offences, including vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of electoral officers. A total sum of ₦17,218,700 was reportedly recovered from those arrested.
The commission disclosed that one of the suspects was found with ₦13.5 million inside a vehicle parked close to a polling unit in Kwali Area Council, raising suspicion of attempted inducement of voters.
Breakdown of the arrests shows that two suspects were apprehended in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and another four in Kwali, indicating what officials described as a coordinated enforcement operation across multiple councils.
The EFCC stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant authorities to deter electoral malpractice and safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
