Sokoto State Government Suspends Sokoto United Management, Assumes Control of Club
The Sokoto State Ministry for Youth and Sports Development has announced the immediate suspension of the management of Sokoto United Football Club, a move that places the affairs of the state-owned club directly under government supervision for the next three months.
This was contained in a letter signed by Aminu S. Fada, Acting Director of Administration, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, adding that the suspension takes effect immediately and applies to all members of the management team, from the General Manager to other key officials. According to the Ministry, the suspension will remain in force for a period of three months, pending further review and directives from the appropriate authorities.
During the suspension period, the Ministry will take over the administration and day-to-day oversight of Sokoto United Football Club. The intervention, the Ministry explained, is aimed at ensuring proper governance, administrative efficiency, and overall stability within the club as it continues to pursue its sporting objectives.
Although the Ministry did not disclose specific reasons for the suspension, the action is widely seen as part of broader efforts by the state government to strengthen the management and performance of its sports institutions. The Ministry emphasized that the step was taken in the best interest of the club and the development of football in the state.
The Ministry however expressed appreciation to the affected management members for their dedication and selfless service to Sokoto United over the years, acknowledging their contributions to the growth and progress of the club, noting that their efforts remain valued by the state government.
The Ministry then assured stakeholders, supporters, and football fans that it would continue to work towards the smooth running of the club and provide further updates as necessary.
