INEC Sets February 20 for 2027 Presidential, NASS Elections

Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has officially fixed February 20, 2027 for the country’s next presidential election, setting the stage for what is expected to be another defining political contest.
The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, during a press briefing in the nation’s capital, where he disclosed that the commission has commenced early preparations for the nationwide exercise.
According to him, the presidential election will be conducted simultaneously with the National Assembly polls on February 20, 2027, in line with established electoral procedures.
He further revealed that the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across the federation will follow two weeks later, on March 6, 2027.
The INEC boss emphasized that the commission is fully prepared and committed to delivering a credible, transparent, and well-coordinated electoral process.
With the date now officially announced, political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders are expected to begin mobilization and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
