Tinubu Nominates Ex-Türkiye Envoy, Amb. Ismail Abba Yusuf, as New NAHCON Chairman
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), subject to Senate confirmation.
The President, in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday, sought the expeditious screening and confirmation of the nominee in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.
Ambassador Yusuf is expected to replace Professor Abdullahi Usman, who resigned earlier this week after serving about 14 months in office.
Until his nomination, Ambassador Yusuf served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024. He is widely regarded as a seasoned career diplomat with years of experience in foreign service.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
If confirmed by the Senate, Ambassador Yusuf will take charge of the apex body responsible for the regulation and management of Hajj operations for Nigerian pilgrims.
