The Kano State Sharia Commission has initiated efforts to address challenges associated with the conduct of Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers on public roads across the state, Daily Star Nigeria reports, citing Premier Radio Kano.

The Chairman of the Commission, Sheikh Abbas Abubakar Daneji, disclosed this during a meeting of the Commission’s Executive Council convened to explore measures aimed at promoting the welfare and overall development of the people of Kano State, as the leadership of the Commission marks one year since assuming office.

Sheikh Daneji acknowledged that the practice of observing Jumu’ah prayers on major roads and streets has continued to pose serious inconveniences to travellers, motorists and other local commuters, particularly on Fridays. According to him, the situation often leads to traffic congestion, delays in movement, and disruptions to commercial and emergency activities.

He noted that commuters, including traders, public transport operators and residents, have repeatedly raised concerns over blocked roads during prayer hours, stressing that the Commission is working with relevant stakeholders to find lasting solutions.

The chairman added that while the Commission recognises the importance of Jumu’ah prayers in Islam, there is also a need to balance religious obligations with public order, safety and the rights of other road users, assuring that steps will be taken to minimise hardship and promote harmony across the state.
