A stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Dawakin-Tofa/Tofa/Rimingado federal constituency of Kano State was disrupted by violence following a heated confrontation among party leaders.

Daily Star Nigeria reports that the incident occurred during a gathering of APC stakeholders in the constituency. The story was sourced from Daily Nigerian, which in turn cited Arewa Updates.

According to the report, the crisis began after Hajiya Hasiya Aminu, the former NNPP women leader in Dawakin-Tofa who recently defected to the APC, openly challenged the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.

Hajiya Hasiya reportedly accused the lawmaker of failing to adequately cater for party members and urged him to emulate the leadership style of the Chairman of Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area, Anas Mukhtar Bello DanMaliki, as well as Engr. Abba Ganduje. Her comments were said to have angered Hon. Jobe.

Eyewitnesses said that while Hajiya Hasiya was still addressing the gathering, the lawmaker attempted to respond but was restrained by party officials. The situation escalated when the microphone was seized, triggering chaos at the venue.

The meeting eventually turned violent as angry youths, believed to be supporters of the lawmaker, disrupted the gathering. In the process, the master of ceremonies (MC) reportedly had his clothes torn and narrowly escaped harm, while several stakeholders fled the venue.

A participant at the meeting told Arewa Updates that many party stakeholders left the venue on foot to avoid being caught in the unrest.

The meeting was historic as it marked the first time supporters of Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe and Engr. Abba Ganduje—who were rivals during the 2023 general elections—came together under one roof. It was also the first gathering to unite politicians aligned with both the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya factions in the constituency.

Those present at the meeting included aspirants for the House of Representatives seat, Barrister Munir Dahiru Maigari; former Chairman of Rimingado Local Government, Dr. Jinaidu Yakubu Tofa; Engr. Abba Ganduje; and the Director-General of Media to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, who reportedly participated via telephone.

Other APC leaders in attendance included Malam Sani Tofa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and former Chairman of the Kano State Judicial Service Commission; former Kano State Commissioners for Works—Engr. Hamisu Lambu, Shehu Haruna Lambu, and Idris Garba Unguwar Rimi; former Kano State National Commissioner, Muhammad Nadu Yahaya; Professor Nura Yaro Dawakin-Tofa; Professor Kabiru Dungurawa; former Provost of Kano State Polytechnic; Ibrahim Umar, former district head of Tofa; Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu; the Deputy Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly; Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimingado, former Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission; Ahmad Muhammad, former Speaker; and a former Chairman of Dawakin-Tofa Local Government, among others.
